Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) is a non-surgical procedure involving wearing specialized contact lenses while sleeping. The contact lenses reshape the cornea so that the patient sees well without contact lenses or glasses during the day. It is intended mainly for mild to moderately nearsighted patients who may also have small amounts of astigmatism.

Orthokeratology lenses are a good option for young people whose nearsightedness (myopia) is advancing with time. Both ortho-K lenses and regular rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses have been shown to slow the progression of nearsightedness, compared to wearing glasses or soft contact lenses.
